Arc of Blair County Bus trip: Saturday, October 21, 2023, 7 am
Akron Zoo and Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Before registering for the bus trip, please be certain to read ALL following guidelines. This trip should prove to be beautiful during the month of October but certain policies must be followed for the best interest of the group at large.
1. There is a $25.00 per person security deposit due before registration is complete. If The Arc does not receive the security deposit then registration is voided. The link to pay for the security deposit is below (paypal). Please click the link below and enter information to pay just the security deposit (you will have to click “sign up”, to sign up for the event as well). Each person will receive $25.00 in cash during the bus trip. A no show for bus boarding the day of the trip will cause forfeiture of the security deposit and will remain the property of The Arc of Blair County.
2. Each Arc member is expected to be accompanied by either staff offering friendship and support, or a family member over the age of 18. Again, each companion must pay the $25.00 security deposit. If a family member or staff believe they can provide support to 2 or 3 people at the same time, that is fine. The Arc staff needs to remain free in case of any emergencies and therefore will not be responsible for guiding anyone throughout the designated stops.
4. The bus will depart The Arc of Blair County promptly at 7:00 a.m. The Arc members have developed a culture of late arrivals to classes and events. There will not be ANY waiting. The bus has been instructed to pull out precisely at 7:00 a.m. There is a lot to explore and adhering to departure times is crucial to be able to capture all the memories of this special day.
The bus is expected to return to The Arc of Blair County at 10:00 p.m. Phone calls will be made when the bus is 30 minutes away to allow ample time for rides to be waiting at The Arc.
5. The Arc of Blair County will provide the tickets for every person on the bus to the Akron Zoo as well as cover the expense of the bus itself (very expensive, by the way). The bus will stop at approximately 5:30 p.m. for dinner. Each person on the bus will pay individually for meal. All snacks or lunches throughout the day are the responsibility of each person. The Arc will provide a continental breakfast and juice for breakfast on the bus. The Arc will provide snacks and water for the bus drive back to Altoona during the evening.
6. Each person is welcome to bring a container for a picnic lunch but will have to carry the container to the pavilion at the national park. If lugging extra things does not sound appealing, there are places to purchase food throughout the zoo and the national park. Water bottles and fanny packs are encouraged to bring for use throughout the day.
7. The Arc will be visiting the Akron Zoo then the Cuyahoga Valley National Park followed by dinner. Each person is expected to be on time for all boarding times from one location to the next. The bus will not wait for anyone. A person not on the bus at the expected time will need to find alternate transportation back to Altoona where vehicles are parked.
8. Please note that this trip will require a lot of walking and/or wheelchair accommodations. The Arc staff and volunteers will not be assisting with any accommodations. Be prepared by wearing comfortable, layered clothing and proper shoes conducive for walking.
9. Should the bus overfill capacity, a lottery will be put in effect to select the members who will be eligible to attend the trip. The criteria will be taken in this order based on the most involvement in Arc fundraising and activities as a way to thank committed Arc members. Members who have been actively involved in all 4 areas get first choice, followed by members who have involved in 3 areas as second choice, and so forth. Again, this is only vital if the bus is overflowing capacity. Otherwise, all are welcome as long as a member of The Arc of Blair County.
a. You must be a current member of The Arc with no past due membership lingering.
b. Sold Penn State raffle tickets
c. Participated in the hoagie/sub sale
d. Walked at the Highmark Healthy Living event
10. If you agree to all of the guidelines set forth, please continue to the registration page. Once registered, and security deposit accounted for, a letter with a few more details and contact information
will be sent.
